Location

Why not make a visit to the old Roman town of Pollensa? Situated just 5km inland, this renowned artist's colony, with its narrow streets and wonderfully restored stone village houses is steeped in both charm and history. Take a trip up the Calvary Steps, or visit the Convent of Santo Domingo. You can also enjoy a boat trip around the spectacular cliffs of Cape Formentor, plunging some 800 feet into the sea.

One of the prettiest resorts on the north coast, Puerto Pollensa curves around a magnificent bay with a backdrop of the Sierra Traumontana mountains. Good roads and transportation make it an ideal base for exploring the villages and sights of north Majorca. Where its neighbours have gone all out to attract the mainstream tourist, Puerto Pollensa’s fans – mostly couples and families with older children – appreciate that it has retained its natural beaches of sand and pebbles, and resisted the temptation of discos and high-volume nightclubs. Instead, the ambience here is always relaxed and filled with charm.

Beaches

Puerto Pollensa is host to a long, wide sandy beach that curves around the bay where both windsurfing and waterskiing are popular. There are also a number of small, natural, sand and pebble beaches to explore.

Shopping

There is a plentiful array of local shopping to tempt you, or alternatively, why not make a visit to the old town of Pollensa where some of the more sophisticated handicrafts and art can be sampled. Look out for traditional pottery and stylish contemporary ceramics, or visit the Sunday morning market with its truly charming ambience.

Nightlife

As well as its relaxed atmosphere Puerto Pollensa does boast a good choice of bars, some with live music and discos. Though for a more vibrant selection of bars and discos it is worth checking out the various offerings of nearby Alcudia.

Local Specialities

Enjoy the leisurely atmosphere as the sun goes down with a stroll along the harbour front before making your choice for dinner. Puerto Pollensa has some truly excellent seafood restaurants. Why not sample one of the many varieties of fine fish from the Mallorcan shores? Such as Lubina (Sea Bass), Rape (Monk Fish) or even the big ugly jawed C'ap Roig with its juicy white meat, all of which are firm favourites with the locals.
