Fuerteventura Climate and Fuerteventura weather

Fuerteventura is the nearest Canary Islands to the Sahara coastline of Moroco giving Fuerteventura has much more of the hot and dry African climate which is tempered down being an island in the Atlantic ocean with its refreshing cooling breezes or winds.

At times temperatures can reach 40 degrees centigrade in the peak summer months of July and August, but the average is far cooler than this at around 27 degrees centigrade. Rainfall is almost non existent in the summer months.

The very hot periods are usually caused when Fuerteventura catches the Scirocco sandstorm winds from the Sahara desert

Fuerteventura cooling trade winds occur throughout the year which making the coastal areas excellent for water sports such as windsurfing.

Winters are balmy and generally dry although there may be overcast and rainy days. Winter nights are cooler and a light pullover or jacket may be required, depends on the strength of the wind.
