The Gothic quarter or Barri Gotic

The Gothic quarter or Barri Gotic is the oldest area of the Ciutat Vella and consists of the medieval heart of Barcelona. Until the 15th century it was surrounded by the city walls.  Most of the old town walls have since disappeared as the city expanded, but some remain.

The Barri Gotic is a maze of narrow old streets, with interesting shops and eateries. The area contains the majority of historic buildings mostly dating from the 14th and 15th century, when Barcelona was at the height of its trading prosperity. The combination of these 2 features draws both Spanish and international tourists from to this historic city, voted by many as the top tourist City destination in the world.
